FIRST OF ALL - LET ME PREFACE THIS MESSAGE BY SAYING NO INCOMING FRESHMAN STUDENTS AT LIBERTY ARE EXPECTED TO AUDITION FOR THE WIND ENSEMBLE. THE CLASSES ARE DESIGNED TO SCHEDULE FROSH/SOPHOMORES IN SYMPHONIC BAND (with a few exceptions due to auditions) AND JUNIORS/SENIORS IN THE WIND ENSEMBLE (with a few exceptions due to auditions).
That beings said, please feel free to continue reading:
The end of the year is approaching at Liberty High School, but we need to continue to look into the future of the band program and seating for next year. Many students signed up for Wind Ensemble, but as you know there are auditions for that class, so we need to take care of that soon.
Rather than doing auditions prior to our concert, I thought it might be best to focus on the project at hand and wrap up the POPS Concert and then follow up with any auditions that need to take place.
So... Here is the process. If you are confused by anything, please feel free to contact me.
Auditions will take place on either Wednesday morning 5/23 (as early as 8:00 a.m.) or after school on Wednesday 5/23 or Thursday 5/24 (as late as 5:00 p.m.). If you cannot make any of those times work, you cannot audition - no exceptions. Wind Ensemble is full of time sacrifices, if the audition is a problem, I imagine there will be several other conflicts in the future.
The audition has two parts:
1. Prepared major scales by memory. 2 mistakes or less. Must be done in correct order.
2. Prepared excerpt(s) found in BAND DOCUMENTS
Students that participated in the Eastshore Region High School Solo and Ensemble DO NOT need to demonstrate scales, as you have already received credit. Middle School Students auditioning must play scales.
Students will select a time (sign-up will appear next week) and come in. Students need to come in by themselves. There will not be any verbal feedback or critique during or after the audition, as I will be trying to move through auditions quickly. *Please note, as always, students with experience in the Liberty Wind Ensemble will have some 'experience' points added to their score, but not enough to guarantee spot in the ensemble. All current Wind Ensemble members are required to audition for their spots.
